Today's cake installment, by special order for Pascal's birthday, is Donauwellen, also known as Schneewittchenkuchen / Snowhite cake. "Schwarz wie Ebenholz, rot wie Blut, weiß wie Schnee, ..." as they say in the fairy tale. Dark dough, Red cherries, White butter cream. When I made it this morning, I was a bit skeptical how it will turn out, but in the end it came out looking and tasting like it's supposed to. Yum.

It does get cold in San Jose during the winter occasionally. The heating runs almost nonstop, and you want to stay in bed. However, the kids still need to go to school and the dog needs a walk. At least today there was plenty of opportunity to see iced over leaves. Sadly the twinkle of the ice crystals doesn't translate to photos.

The heating is running nonstop. It's cold outside, though the ice on cars and house roofs is not that thick yet. Yep, that's our orange tree next to a frozen roof.

Celebrate! I don't remember my workbench ever being this clean and organized. Not even when we moved into this house. Now I can move on to the next project on the list. Have to hurry with that one. Only one week left.
