Flooring: Finale

Grainy photo, but it's the only one I have with the room not quite moved in yet. Either way, the occupant is visibly happy. Here's a timelapse video of me installing the flooring.

Flooring: Hallway Done

It's only February, but the holiday entertainment project is still going strong. At least we threw out our Christmas tree two weeks ago already...  The dreaded bathroom transition Fitting in the last board under the door jambs to the bath room was ... worthy of colorful language. So many angles to worry about and nothing wanted to fit together. The transition piece doesn't quite reach to the level of the bathroom tile floor by about 1/8th inch. Otherwise, I'm quite happy with how this part came out in the end. Stair nose The dreaded stair nose transition wasn't quite as awful as I feared. I cut the last row of boards at the top of the stairs only twice. I should have spaced the screws evenly across the stair nose. Yeah, you can't tell that the gap between screws 1 and 2 matches the gap between screw 3 and 4. Your eye is offended by the fact that the center gap is smaller than the gaps to the left and right. This bugs me, but I'll redo it only if I can't get ...

Flooring: Hallway

Well, I didn't manage to finish today. How long could it possibly take to put laminate in a 12x4 ft hallway? More than one weekend, it turns out. Crooked subfloor and German genes are to blame. Once again , I ran out of daylight for the table saw, but I did get the floor on one end completed. Connected!

Flooring: Intermission

This weekend, it's the hallway's turn. The stairnose finally arrived. The hallway is not that big, so I should be done quickly. ... If only the subfloor wouldn't be very uneven, and somewhat soft in one place. The softness is because there is a heating duct and the furnace exhaust snaking through under the floor, and the floor is not well supported in that area. I tried a fix for this several years ago, but it was never really perfect. Today I decided to try and fix this for good. The root of the problem New floor supports in place ... and closed up. Tomorrow I'll get the floor reasonably level and install the laminate flooring just like I did in the two bedrooms.

Flooring. Act Two. Almost Done

Image
I ran out of time tonight, so the last bits of flooring in front of the closet will get done some other time. Aside from touch-ups the rest of the room is done. I'm dead.

Flooring. Act Two.

Carpet removed. Second bedroom painted, half the of the carpet removed and I started to lay new laminate flooring. I (again) stopped when it became too dark outside to safely work with the table saw.

More Holiday Entertainment

Except for some touch-ups, the first room is done. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

Holiday Entertainment: 4 days later

Fresh paint. Carpet gone. Laminate flooring almost done. Darkness and wind make it unsafe to work with the table saw and finish the flooring tonight. The wall base boards are left to do and then the first room is completed. Need to find a place where to paint the base boards without getting all kinds of debris into the paint. I hope the wind dies down by tomorrow. With other commitments this week, I don't think I'll get the second bedroom done before I need to go back to work next week. Oh well, that's what weekends are for ...

Uh oh, that car looks overloaded ... Yes, the load is heavy. 500 square feet of laminate flooring. Across the top are 12ft long wall base boards. They barely fit into our Toyota Sienna much to the surprise of the guy at the warehouse where I picked up our new floors. I'm not going to be bored for a while ...
